Shopify Consent Log Retention: Keep Your Records Longer

Consent logs are your proof of what each visitor agreed to. When an audit, a data request or a payment dispute asks for that proof, the record you need is often older than your plan’s standard Shopify consent log retention window. By the time you look, it may already be gone.

Consentik on Shopify now gives you two ways to keep consent records longer: free extra months when your paid plan is billed yearly, and a retention add-on that extends your window by 3 months up to 3 years. Both add up, both live on the Consent Log page, and both are billed through your normal Shopify subscription.

Consent Log Retention Now Extends Beyond Your Plan’s Window

The Consent Log page lets you view and export consent records for a set number of days back. We call this your consent log window. It is now made up of up to three parts that stack:

  • Plan window: included with every paid plan, from 60 days on Plus to 180 days on Unlimited.
  • Yearly bonus (free): extra months added when your paid plan is billed yearly.
  • Retention add-on (paid): 3 months to 3 years of extra history, available on every plan, including Free.
  • One place to check it: the Consent log retention card on the Consent Log page shows your current window in days.

Example: Unlimited billed yearly with a 1-year add-on gives you 180 + 360 + 360 = 900 days of consent logs. Consentik counts a month as 30 days, so 3 months = 90 days and 1 year = 360 days.

Why Longer Consent Log Retention Lowers Your Compliance Risk

A consent banner only protects you if you can show what a visitor actually chose. Longer retention means the proof is still there when someone asks for it.

  • Audit-ready consent records: show regulators or auditors the consent history behind your tracking, even when the review covers several months.
  • Faster answers to data requests: when a visitor asks what they agreed to, you can look it up instead of explaining a gap.
  • Evidence for payment disputes: disputes often surface long after the order, and older consent records stay available to export.
  • Proof for as long as you rely on it: regulators generally expect you to show valid consent for as long as you rely on it, and your window can now match that period.

Free Extra Months of Consent Logs on Yearly Plans

When your paid plan is billed yearly, your consent log window grows at no extra cost. The bonus applies as soon as Shopify approves your yearly subscription, including during a free trial.

Plan Billed monthly Yearly bonus Billed yearly
Plus 60 days +3 months 150 days
Advanced 90 days +6 months 270 days
Unlimited 180 days +12 months 540 days

To get the bonus, open Pricing in your Consentik admin, switch the toggle to Yearly, choose your plan and approve the subscription on Shopify’s billing screen. If you are on monthly billing, the Consent Log page also shows a banner with a View yearly plans button that takes you straight there.

The bonus follows your billing. Moving to another yearly plan changes it to that plan’s amount. Switching to monthly billing, downgrading to Free or uninstalling the app ends it.

Extend Shopify Consent Log Retention up to 3 Years with the Add-on

Need more history than your plan includes? The retention add-on extends your window by 3 months up to 3 years, in 3-month steps. The price is the same on every plan, and each extra 3 months costs 5% less than the previous 3 months, so longer retention is cheaper per month.

Extra retention Billed monthly Billed yearly
+3 months $3.99/month $39.90/year
+6 months $7.78/month $77.80/year
+9 months $11.38/month $113.80/year
+1 year $14.80/month $148.00/year
+2 years $26.86/month $268.60/year
+3 years $36.68/month $366.80/year
  • 2 months free on yearly: the yearly price is 10 times the monthly price, so you pay for 10 months and get 12.
  • One Shopify subscription: the add-on is billed together with your plan, so there is no separate invoice.
  • Moves with you: change plans or switch between monthly and yearly, and the add-on comes along on the new billing cycle.
  • Works on Free: the add-on gives Free stores the Consent Log table and export for 30 days plus the months you add, billed monthly with no free trial.

Step-by-Step: How to Extend Your Consent Log Window

Quick setup (4 steps)

  1. In your Consentik admin, open Consent Log.
  2. Find the Consent log retention card and click Extend. If you already have an add-on, click Manage.
  3. Drag the slider to choose how much to add. The card shows your Current window, the Total window after the change and the Add-on price for your billing cycle.
  4. Click Confirm, then approve the updated subscription on Shopify’s billing screen.

Back in the app, the card shows your new window. With an add-on, the badge turns green and shows “Includes +N add-on days”. Your plan, settings and other add-ons stay as they are, and if you are still in your free trial, the remaining trial days carry over.

Consent Log Retention Rules and Limitations

  • Your window grows from the day you extend: extending does not bring back logs that were already deleted. Right away you see what is still stored (usually 30 days on Free, 90 days on Plus and Advanced, 180 days on Unlimited), and history then builds up day by day. On Plus with +3 months, you see 90 days at once and the full 150 days after about 2 months.
  • Shortening deletes older logs: lowering or removing the add-on, switching to monthly billing, moving to a plan with a shorter window, downgrading to Free or uninstalling all shrink your window. Logs older than the new window are permanently deleted the next day. Consentik shows how many days you will lose before you confirm, but uninstalling happens in Shopify with no warning, so export first.
  • Discount codes: promotion codes apply to the plan price only, not to the add-on.
  • Billing changes: each add-on change is approved on Shopify’s billing screen, and mid-cycle changes are prorated on your next bill. The Pricing page shows the plan price only, while Shopify bills plan and add-on together.
  • Statistics and scheduled export: on plans with Consent Response Statistics, the date range follows your window up to 180 days. Scheduled export still emails last month’s records on the 1st of every month.
  • Existing yearly subscribers: if your yearly subscription started before this launch, the bonus is added the next time you approve a yearly subscription in Consentik, for example when you change plan or add the add-on. Your renewal alone does not add it.
